Cell-Loc technology may provide viable alternative to existing traffic monitoring methods
CALGARY AB, FEBRUARY 13, 2001 - Cell-Loc Inc. (CLQ:TSE) today announced that it has received a federal government grant in the amount of $141,600 to study the collection and dissemination of real-time traffic information for traffic monitoring purposes.
The objective of this closed trial is to determine the technical feasibility of developing a traffic monitoring application based on vehicle probes using Cell-Loc's Cellocate™ wireless location technology. In this study, cellular devices in vehicles will be used to determine traffic flow which is currently done through the use of stationary vehicle detecting sensors.
"Using Cell-Loc's Alberta Living Lab test environment in Calgary, this study is another step toward validating our technology, and it adds another application to the long list of services that wireless location can enable," said John Krpan, COO, Cell-Loc Inc.
"This grant provides Cell-Loc with the opportunity to introduce an alternative to current traffic monitoring methods. Our location technology may be just what commuters need to enjoy less stressful drives to and from work," added Krpan.
This contract from the Government of Canada (contract number T8200-000545/001-MTB, Traffic Monitoring Application Using Cellular Positioning Technology) was made available through the Transportation Development Centre.
